Enigma of Jens
Materials are processed differently in the two art works of Jens to reveal the different aspects of his personality. The single enigma painting figure is washed and sanded away to reveal the embedded form, in the act of a martial arts pose encapsulating mindfulness. The tripytch lighter in colour captures the energy and quirky side of Jens with the three angle distortion views.

Tropical space and Meena
The life size seated cross-legged pose of Meena with hands resting in her lap is combined with an enquiring expression of gentleness. This embodies a feeling of mindfulness, of being at peace in one’s surrounding. The abstracted tropical garden flows behind the figure, the surface treatment includes the use of a power drimmel to create the abstracted vegetation. Layers of the figure and clothes are sanded away to reveal the underpainting of the ground, inviting the viewer to create a closer connection.

Sofia and Frangipani
Through the exploration of creating Sofia in a space filled with frangipani flowers, a second figure emerged. This second Sofia is a visual metaphor for the mindfulness within the subject. Mindfulness experiencing the sensory beauty of nature through immersion in the forms, scent and feel of flowers. The painting has a simple palette inspired by the colours of the Northern Territory and palette of Renaissance painters.

Dancing hands
The hand portraits are life size images with a painted frame inviting the viewer to look closer and experience the flow of hands and the materials. Two of the paintings are sculpted and painted on handmade silky oak bases. Emphasizing the importance of touch, hands are always depicted in pairs, resting, dancing, and giving.

Abstract hands
The hand portraits of hands in action sewing and plaiting hair celebrate the joy of the spontaneity of watercolour paint flow combined with artistic immersion in the flow state. The plaster forms and paint are heavily sanded and provide more ‘lost and found’ space in an abstract vision for the viewer to engage and connect.

Abstract flowing working hands
The paintings with an abstract quality celebrate the joy of the spontaneity of flowing watercolour paint combined with artistic immersion in the flow state. The plaster forms and paint are often sanded or removed with water pressure and provide more ‘lost and found’ space for the viewer to engage and connect.

Sharona on country
Sharona is depicted in the ochre and red colours of her country with an intimate scale and intense gaze. Watercolor paint flows over and within the varied texture of the plaster. The importance of touch in helping us make sense of the world is emphasised through the depiction of hands connecting to the face.

Brenda
This portrait of Brenda reflects the influences of the A day in Pompeii exhibition combined with Donatello’s Rilievo Schiacciato technique. The head and shoulders are framed by heavily textured coloured rock grounds, the colours emphasized in the watercolour palette for the figure.

The flow of Ilma
The painting of Ilma beside the Dripstone cliffs encapsulates a feeling of flow in the layers of the ripple cliffs and the swirling folds of her dress.
